5 Live: Tony Livesey starts new show from Manchester on 11 January

Tony Livesey

Tony Livesey's new late-night show on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 5 Live will begin broadcasting from the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's Manchester Oxford Road studios on Monday 11 January 2010.

The late-night show, which the Burnley-born presenter will take over from Richard Bacon, is the first of the station's London-based programmes to make the move north prior to the whole station moving to Ö÷²¥´óÐã North's state-of-the-art broadcasting space at Salford Quays in 2011.

Stephen Nolan's programme on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays already comes from Manchester so now the station's late-night strand will come from Manchester seven days a week.

Tony Livesey, who has presented the breakfast show on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Lancashire as well as a variety of 5 Live programmes over the last two years, will host the late night show from 10.30pm to 1.00am, Monday to Thursday, with a mixture of news, sport, discussion and entertainment.

He said: "Now 5 Live's late nights have moved house and landed on my door step, I can promise to be at the centre of all the big news sport and showbiz stories.

"I can't wait to swap stories with listeners right across the UK.

"I can't guarantee the weather up here but I will promise that my show will leave people with a smile."

Radio 5 Live Controller Adrian Van Klaveren said: "Tony's new programme is a major landmark in the planning for 5 Live's full move in 2011.

"The new late-night show should be essential listening for anyone who wants to be informed and entertained at the end of the day."

Radio 5 Live Editor in Manchester, Jonathan Aspinwall, said: "The 5 Live audience have always responded well to Tony's warm and witty style of broadcasting. His work on Inside Sport and on sports programmes in the North-West means that he gets to talk to some of the biggest sports stars in the country.

"Tony will also be at the heart of the 5 Live news operation – covering some of the biggest stories of 2010."
