Ö÷²¥´óÐã Executive Priorities and Summary Workplan for 2011/2012

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã has published its Executive Priorities and Summary Workplan for 2011/12, which includes the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's Statements of Programme Policy (SoPPs) for the year.

These publications are part of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's commitment to openness and transparency, both to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Trust and to licence fee payers, and will be published online each year.

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Trust has set four over-arching objectives for the organisation between now and 2016:

• to increase the distinctiveness and quality of its output

• to improve the value for money it provides to licence fee payers

• to do more to serve all audiences

• to set new standards of openness and transparency

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Summary Workplan sets out how these six-year objectives have been translated into annual objectives for Ö÷²¥´óÐã management and staff. It also highlights any notable or significant changes to Ö÷²¥´óÐã services and includes a high-level Ö÷²¥´óÐã budget for 2011/12.

The Statements of Programme Policy (SoPPs) set out the Controller's vision for each of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's services for the coming year and any notable editorial developments or programmes.

The Workplan does not prejudice the outcome of the Delivering Quality First process which will present recommendations to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Trust this summer.

Notes to Editors

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Trust concluded during the Putting Quality First process that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã should publish an annual business plan in addition to Statements of Programme Policy for the year ahead. This is the first time that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã has published a Summary Workplan and outline budget.

Under the Communications Act 2003, each public service broadcaster must produce an annual statement identifying its commitments for delivering its public service remit in the year ahead. This is the tenth set of Ö÷²¥´óÐã statements.

The terms under which the Ö÷²¥´óÐã is required to produce statements for its public services are covered in the Revised Agreement with the Secretary of State approved by Parliament in December 2003.

It is the sole responsibility of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Trust to monitor the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's performance against the statements and report their conclusions.

The regulatory programming quotas placed on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã which are monitored by Ofcom are in addition to SoPPs commitments. These are measured by Ofcom on a calendar year basis and compliance reported by the external regulator. The Ö÷²¥´óÐã's accounting year runs from 1 April to 31 March.
