Danny Cohen brings new commissions to Ö÷²¥´óÐã One

Ö÷²¥´óÐã One Controller, Danny Cohen

Ö÷²¥´óÐã One Controller Danny Cohen today announces three new commissions across factual, entertainment, and drama that embrace new talent, award-winning writers and live events on an epic scale.

Fight For Life will see live event broadcasts from around the world, following some of the planet's most incredible animals going through their most critical and vulnerable periods – the first few days and weeks of their newborn's lives. Fight For Life will follow animals including black bears and their tiny cubs in Minnesota, through to baby Ring Tailed lemurs in Madagascar and cheetahs cubs in the Masai Mara.

Executive producer Tim Scoones says: "With its global reach and an A-list cast of animals, Fight For Life will be the most editorially, technically and logistically ambitious live wildlife event we've ever undertaken."

Commissioned by Ö÷²¥´óÐã One Controller Danny Cohen and Commissioning Editor for Science and Natural History, Kim Shillinglaw, Fight For Life is a Ö÷²¥´óÐã Natural History Unit production.

Written by award-winning writer Peter Moffat, The Village is an epic and emotional story of 20th century Britain through the eyes of one man, Bert Middleton. Having lived in the same Derbyshire village for a hundred years, Bert's life from boyhood to extreme old age provides the narrative backbone. His last great act of remembering is our way in to an examination of who we are and why.

The Village is a Company Pictures production for Ö÷²¥´óÐã One commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, Ö÷²¥´óÐã Drama Commissioning and Danny Cohen, Controller, Ö÷²¥´óÐã One. Written by Peter Moffat, the six-part series will go in to production in the spring of 2012 and will be executive produced by George Faber for Company Pictures and Polly Hill at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

In What's The Story? (w/t) critically acclaimed Scottish stand-up Kevin Bridges sets out to discover the reality behind some of his stellar on-stage material by looking at his life, his family and friends, his upbringing in the Scottish town of Clydebank, and the world he sees around him.

What's The Story? will not only go behind the gags but also get closer to the man, who, at only 24, is already becoming a household name.

Kevin says: "I'm delighted at the news that someone at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã has deemed me worthy enough to be let loose with a camera crew in an attempt to make something funny. I'm excited at being given this opportunity and to be able to produce the show from Scotland is an added bonus. It'll be great to see something on national TV made from Scotland that doesn't have an appeal for witnesses before the closing credits.

What's The Story? is an Open Mike (Scotland) production for Ö÷²¥´óÐã One and will be filmed in Glasgow. It was commissioned by Controller, Ö÷²¥´óÐã One, Danny Cohen; Controller, Entertainment Commissioning, Mark Linsey and Out Of London Entertainment Commissioner, Alan Tyler.

Speaking of the new commissions, Ö÷²¥´óÐã One Controller Danny Cohen said: "From the African savannah to a small English village, from major live events to one of Britain's hottest young comic talents, these commissions show the range and ambition we have for Ö÷²¥´óÐã One and our aim to combine world-class quality with risk and innovation."
