Unmissable moments from Radio 2 in the Park 2024

The Radio 2 family were so thrilled to be back out on the road, and this year's destination was none other than Moor Park in Preston!

The station brought a weekend of non-stop fun and incredible music, with a packed line up including iconic names such as Sugababes, Shaznay Lewis, Craig David, Snow Patrol, Delta Goodrem, Sister Sledge, and not to mention the amazing headliners Sting and Pet Shop Boys.

Every little thing Sting did was magic

The legendary Police frontman and one of the north east's greatest musical exports proved a huge crowd-pleaser as our Saturday headliner. This hit-packed set drew on his whole catalogue, featuring beloved Police and solo classics. Highlights included a huge crowd singalong on An Englishman in New York and one of the ever first live performances of his brand new single, I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart) - fresh from its world premiere play by Scott Mills on Radio 2 Breakfast.

Pet Shop Boys were mesmerising

The synth-pop icons closed out Sunday at Radio 2 in the Park in style. Selling more than 50 million records, they're the most successful UK duo of all time. Alongside a spectacular light show and a whole host of backing dancers, singer Neil Tennant performed some of the pair’s legendary hits including It’s a Sin, Go West and Always On My Mind. Their penultimate track, West End Girls, was chosen by 主播大秀 Radio 2 listeners as the Ultimate Pet Shop Boys Song.

Sugababes brought the goods as always

Sugababes pulled huge crowds throughout 2024’s festival season, and their hit-packed set in Moor Park was no exception. The effortlessly cool OG line-up - Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan teased their heavily anticipated next album and even featured a cover of UK Garage classic Flowers by Sweet Female Attitude.

Scottish rockers Travis brought the festival to a great start

The very first act to take to the stage at Radio 2 in the Park was the one and only Travis. The Glaswegian rockers have never shied away bringing loud rock anthems and singalong vibes to their sets, and Radio 2 in the Park was no exception! Performing their classic song Sing, Driftwood and Flowers in the Window with a full brass ensemble definitely started the festival with a bang. The band even covered Aztec Camera’s Somewhere in My Heart. And of course, their set would not be complete without a crowd sing-a-long to Why Does it Always Rain on Me?

Snow Patrol charmed Preston with their triumphant return

Gary Lightbody’s Celtic alt-rockers never fail to bring the soulful vibes. Warming up for the release of their first new studio album for six years, the band treated Moor Park to new songs All and The Beginning. The set closed with their gloabal anthem Chasing Cars, which got one of the biggest cheers of the weekend. No wonder Gary told Jo Whiley afterwards that he loved every minute of their set!

A stunning set from Delta Goodrem

The Australian singer-songwriter brought feel-good anthems to lift the spirits while the rain fell over Preston. After a special dedication to our very own Scott Mills, Delta launched into a mini-medley of three Aussie bangers. First came arguably the most famous Antipodean song of all time - the Neighbours theme tune - before seguing into Kylie smash The Loco-Motion then pop anthem Torn, made famous by Natalie Imbruglia. The set closed with Delta’s 80s-inspired latest single Hearts on the Run.

Pixie Lott & Rylan: the collaboration we didn't know we needed

She’s a multi-million record selling singer-songwriter and talent show guest judge - there’s not much that London’s Pixie Lott can't do. Preston bounced to the noughties pop vibes while Pixie looked like she was having the time of her life performing in front of the Moor Park crowd. There was a whistlestop tour of hits like Boys and Girls and It’s All About Tonight but it was an unexpected collaboration with 主播大秀 Radio 2’s own Rylan on Cry Me Out that got everyone swaying along soulfully.

For three days only, Lancashire became Rylancashire because wherever you turned in Preston’s Moor Park, 主播大秀 Radio 2’s own Rylan Clark was right there.

As well as joining Pixie, during his Rybiza Anthems DJ set, he stepped out from the decks for a spot of Irish dancing with surprise guests B*Witched… and then on Sunday, he graced the DJ stage to boogie on down with Michael Ball and Sally Traffic to the best Broadway Bangers, and later he and Scott Mills brought the house down warming up for Pet Shop Boys with a special joint DJ set.

The crowd loved Craig David's irresistible tunes

The slick garage and RnB star Craig David is not unfamiliar with a big crowd and Radio 2 in the Park certainly delivered!

Opening up with his classic anthem What’s Your Flava, Craig David certainly knows how to bring the party. He had the masses singing along to 7 Days and Fill Me In before introducing his soon-to-be-released single In Your Hands which got the crowd going wild.
