Ukraine's Sergey Lebid is the man to beat, having won the title seven times, including last year in Toro, Spain. One of his challengers could be the man who won in 2006 - Britain's Mo Farah, who disappointed in the Olympics but came back to win the Great North Mile in October. The generally disappointing performance by the British athletics team in Beijing led to the appointment of Charles van Commenee as head coach and the trip to Ostend will be his first trip in his new role.

Spaniard Marta Dominguez won the women's race last year but conditions will probably be very different this time, with mud and heavy ground in Ostend more likely than the dry and fast going that the athletes encountered in Spain in 2007. Meanwhile, Britain's Steph Twell will be aiming for an unprecedented third consecutive win in the junior women's event. Commentary from Steve Cram and Brendan Foster.
