54th BFI London Film Festival discussion

In the first all new Arts Show, Claudia meets Claude-Michel Schonberg, who composed Les Miserables, and Sandra Hebron, artistic director of the BFI, plus actors Tim and Sam West.

The first all new Arts Show, and Claudia talks to:

Sandra Hebron, artistic director of the BFI, who is in to discuss the 54th London Film Festival. The London Film Festival champions creativity, originality, vision and imagination by annually showcasing the best of contemporary world cinema, documentaries, shorts, animation and experimental film. The Festival is a highly regarded and anticipated event in Europe's cultural calendar, attracting leading international film-makers, industry professionals and large audiences to London for a two week celebration of cinema.

Claude-Michel Schonberg who in 1978 conceived the idea for a stage musical version of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, alongside lyricist Alain Boublil. The musical opened to acclaim in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987. The Broadway production was nominated for twelve Tony Awards and won eight, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

Father and son actors Timothy and Sam West who'll be starring on the London stage in a two-hander called A Number, written by Caryl Churchill. A Number debuted at the Royal Court in 2002, directed by Stephen Daldry, winning the Evening Standard Award for Best Play.

Film critic Charles Gant has details of this week's most significant movie releases, and comedy critic Veronica Lee discusses the best of the circuit's post-Edinburgh comedy shows.
