How well can the region cope with the next round of spending cuts? The Government's autumn spending review next month will set out the spending plans for the next four years. Its purpose is to reduce the level of Britain's deficit. Almost every part of society could be affected as all government departments - except health and international development - are asked to find savings of 25 per cent from their budgets.

The programme reveals the index of resilience - specially commissioned research which ranks England's local authorities according to how well they can bounce back from the spending cuts. Find out why one area is more resistant than the rest and who has the best chance of a quick recovery.
