Sir Salman Rushdie spent nearly nine years in hiding and under protection from death threats after the publication of his novel Satanic Verses caused riots across the Islamic world. His second novel Midnight's Children inspired a generation of novelists in both India and was awarded the "Booker of Bookers" Prize. Rushdie's new book is Luka and the Fire of Life. He tells Razia Iqbal why he wrote the book for his second son, Milan.
