When Jackie and Elaine's best mate Shazza dies out of the blue, it leaves the girls with something of a dilemma; the three of them had rustled up a plan to launch a brand new business, Candy Cabs, a taxi company run by women, for women. Although Jackie and Elaine have bags of enthusiasm, it was always Shazza who had the chutzpah to make it really happen.

At the funeral, Jackie and Elaine are faced with a dilemma. Elaine's already lied to her husband and forged his signature on a home loan, and Jackie is doubtful that Elaine has the guts to go through with it. The trouble is, there are six bright pink custom-made cars on a transporter zooming its way to the seaside resort of South Hadley. And a gang of girls including Elaine's sister-in-law Diane, the rogue-like Stella and sex fiend Amanda, are lined up to be drivers.

How in the world is this unlikely pairing of Northern women going to succeed as business partners? The road towards becoming entrepreneurs doesn't run smoothly, and it's not long before personal obstacles interfere with their professional dreams.

A poor showing at their opening party leaves the girls worried. And then they find out all their drivers need to pass the Knowledge just to keep trading. When good-looking Tony McQueen from the Permits Bureau arrives to help, Jackie can't help falling for him - but can he be trusted?

Shazza's rascal of an ex-husband Dennis shows up from Spain, Elaine's husband Dave can see their entire life savings going down the tube, and to top it all, the Candies have to deal with the male taxi drivers of the town, aided and abetted by the local taxi tyrant, Kenny Ho. Can Candy Cabs survive when everyone is against them?
