These include a clash between fierce rivals Manchester United and Liverpool, who met at Old Trafford in their first league meeting since the controversial match which saw Luis Suarez given an eight-match ban for racially abusing United's Patrice Evra.

There were plenty of other important fixtures, including a clash between Tottenham and Newcastle, two clubs who have exceeded expectations this season. Chelsea visited Everton, while Arsenal travelled to Sunderland, looking for a boost ahead of their Champions League last 16 visit to AC Milan on Wednesday.

There were several games which could have a big impact on the race to avoid relegation, with Blackburn hosting QPR while local rivals Bolton and Wigan met at the DW Stadium. In the day's other two games, Swansea faced fellow promoted club Norwich, and Fulham and Stoke met at Craven Cottage.
