Many foster parents are still not allowed to make day to day decisions for the children in their care. According to a new study by the Fostering Network, 17 per cent of foster carers do not have the authority to make decisions about haircuts, and one in five foster carers do not have the authority to make decisions about school day trips. We hear from one foster mother facing these frustrations, and Aasmah then discusses the issue with Vicki Swain, Campaigns Manager at the Fostering Network, and Sue Kent, Professional Officer at the British Association of Social Workers.

The number of women on company boards and the best ways to increase their representation is rarely out of the news these days. Deborah Gillis is Senior Vice President of Catalyst, a global, non-profit organisation who support over 500 companies around the world to increase the numbers of women progressing into executive roles. She joins Aasmah Mir to discuss the position of women at work internationally and whether different countries need diverse approaches to improving the numbers of women moving through the ranks.

Her new book is Cook On A Shoestring. She joins Aasmah Mir with practical tips and suggestions for healthy, tasty and cheap meals.

Uganda is a dangerous place to be a gay woman. In 2009 an Anti-Homosexuality Bill proposed the death penalty and imprisonment,聽Christians evangelicals preached anti-gay sentiment, and the tabloid press waged an outing campaign with headlines such as 鈥淗ang them.鈥� In the face of such threats, several members of the gay community risked their lives to speak out. One of these activists was lesbian Naome Ruzindana, whose friend and fellow campaigner - the country鈥檚 first openly gay man, David Kato - was later murdered. Naome joins Aasmah Mir to share her experiences, along with documentary producer, Malika Zouhali-Worrall, who risked imprisonment to tell her story.
