Malala Yousufzai

There has been shock across the world at the shooting of the Pakistani schoolgirl, Malala Yousufzai by the Taleban in North West Pakistan. Although only 15 she has been campaigning since the age of 11 for the rights of girls to attend school. This campaign started with the publication in 2009 of a blog on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's Urdu website, which was later published in English. Malala is now recovering from her injuries in hospital in Birmingham.Ìý We asked girls Malala’s age from the King Edward VI School in Handsworth, Birmingham to voice the blog in English.

Women voters and the presidential elections

On the eve of this very close run Presidential election howÌýimportant is the women’s vote and how have the two parties fared in attracting and/or keeping the women voters? The Democrats appeared to get more women to back them in the earlier stages of campaigning, but have the Republicans managed to change the debate by going on the offensive about the economy?

Anne Dickson, A Woman In Your Own Right

When it was first published thirty years ago 'A Woman In Your Own Right' by Anne Dickson was described by many women as their bible. It was an assertiveness training handbook. Originally translated into over a dozen languages, it has now been re-written and re-published. The journalist, Suzanne Moore, joins Anne and Jane to discuss if, despite three decades of significant changes, particularly for women, the need for assertiveness training still exists?
