Prom 54: World Routes Prom
A special Prom featuring the stars of the 2013 World Routes Academy, Fidan Hajiyeva and Gochaq Askarov. Plus Bassekou Kouyate and the worldwide debut of the Da Kali Trio from Mali.

The stars of this year's World Routes Academy Fidan Hajiyeva and Gochaq Askarov from Azerbaijan live at the 主播大秀 Proms. Plus music from Mali with Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba, as well as the worldwide debut of the all-star Da Kali Trio.
In January 2013 UK-based Fidan Hajiyeva, at just 17, became the youngest member of the World Routes Academy. Launched in 2010, the 主播大秀 Radio 3 World Routes Academy aims to support and inspire young world music artists by bringing them together with an internationally renowned artist in the same field and belonging to the same tradition. Fidan's parents are from music-rich Azerbaijan and her mentor is the celebrated Azeri singer Gochaq Askarov.
The World Routes Prom also includes a focus on Mali. Da Kali is an ensemble drawn from the long tradition of Malian griots or praise singers, and includes virtuoso balafon player Lassana Diabate, Hawa Diabate a powerful and versatile female griot, and Mamadou Kouyate, who has made the little known bass ngoni his own. Trio Da Kali's appearance at the 主播大秀 Proms will be their world premiere. The Trio has been handpicked by the Aga Khan Music Initiative for the next Kronos Quartet collaboration, which will debut in the USA in early 2014.
Bassekou Kouyate is one of the true masters of the ngoni, an ancient traditional lute found throughout West Africa. He has collaborated with many musicians in and outside of Mali including Toumani Diabate, Taj Mahal, Toumani Diabate, Ali Farka Toure, Sir Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, and many others. After his celebrated debut album 'Segu Blue' and the Grammy nominated follow up 'I speak fula', as well as hundreds of concerts all over the globe, he is back with his new album 'Jama ko.'.
