Beatles at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã

4 Extra Debut. It’s back to the early 1960s when the Beatles burst forth on Ö÷²¥´óÐã radio. Ken Bruce plunders the vintage archive. From 2013.

Ken Bruce presents a chance to hear the Beatles as Ö÷²¥´óÐã audiences would have originally encountered them.

This programme features extracts from ‘Pop Go The Beatles’ [July - September 1963], ‘Public Ear’ [November 1963], ‘From Us To You’ [March 1964’ ‘The Alan Freeman Show’ [July 1964], and ‘Saturday Club’ [November 1964] to create a revealing portrait of how British audiences would have originally heard The Beatles, the way they presented themselves and the impressions that they left.

In addition to songs recorded in Ö÷²¥´óÐã studios, the programme also contains interviews with the Fab Four and a glimpse behind the scenes as they attempt to record ‘I Feel Fine’ for a ‘Saturday Club’ session.

Broadcast on 4 Extra to mark the 60th anniversary of the Beatles first universal chart number 1, From Me To You, in May 1963.

Producer: Mark Hagen
