Calum Macdonald

Runrig founder member Calum Macdonald tells Phil Cunningham about the role music has played in his life and picks five tracks that have been milestones along the way.

Calum Macdonald along with his elder brother Rory and fellow Skye based musician Blair Douglas formed the Celtic rock group Runrig in the early 1970's

Since then the band have earned a loyal and enthusiastic following and they've played at such diverse venues as New York's Time Square, Edinburgh Castle and on the shores of Loch Lomond.

Still playing and writing songs, in this musical gem from the 主播大秀 Radio Scotland archives Calum tells Phil Cunningham about his childhood on the isle of Skye, the musicians who have inspired him and the enjoyment he gets in seeing his son Donald writing and recording new music.

Calum begins by telling Phil how a Runrig track was taken into space by an astronaut on the Columbia Space Shuttle that sadly ended in tragedy. He goes on to pick tracks by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Blair Douglas and lets Phil hear a song from his son's band Donald Macdonald and The Islands.
