Guy Grieve

Clare English speaks to people who quit their day job to do something they are passionate about. Guy Grieve talks about leaving marketing to set up an ethical fishing company.

In this positive, inspiring and envy making Conversation series Clare English speaks to 5 people who have been brave enough to bin the day job in favour of doing something they really, really want to do with their lives. But how easy is it, does it always mean a financial compromise and downsizing of their lives, how does it impact on the people around them and is it just a selfish, self-centred option usually born of a midlife crisis which most of us can't seriously consider because we have more sense of responsibility to those we love? We'll also determine just what the difference is between a career and a vocation and question whether it just slips back into a job once you've been doing it for a while? This week, Clare speaks to extreme adventurer Guy Grieve about ditching his marketing job and leaving his family behind for a year whilst he built a log cabin in Alaska in a bid to 'find himself' - The result? - Another mad adventure, but this time with his family on a trans-Atlantic voyage from Venezuela to Scotland. On his return, they set up their own Ethical fishing company. Hand diving for Scallops each day in the waters that surround the Isle of Mull, does this new career give Guy all he's been looking for?
