The installation of controversial average speed cameras on the A9 begins this week. The first phase of the programme, to improve safety on the road, is focusing on the section between Inverness and Perth. There are various voice in opposition saying that dualling and speed restrictions are the better answer.

The Scottish Police Federation has launched a major PR campaign to improve the image of the force and to "decontaminate" itself from scandals that have hit the service down south.
