War Child

War Child
War Child is an international charity founded in 1993, working to protect children and young people living in some of the worst conflict-affected places in the world. Children do not start wars but their homes, schools and families 鈥 the very things upon which they rely for safety and stability continue to be destroyed by conflict.聽 Our staff are now on the ground in the Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Central African Republic and Jordan responding to the Syrian crisis.聽

We ensure that the most vulnerable and marginalised children are not forgotten during and in the aftermath of conflict. Children who may have been orphaned, are living and working on the streets, are at risk from abuse and exploitation, or are returning to their day to day life after having been recruited and trained as a soldier.聽

Protecting children who have been forced to flee

Protecting children who have been forced to flee
Many children who flee their homes from conflict will have suffered unimaginable atrocities and are badly traumatised. 聽Some have lost family members, been targeted with violence or separated from their parents. We鈥檙e providing safe spaces and protection for children like Dima and her siblings, in the Za鈥檃tari camp for refugees from the fighting in Syria, as well as in Iraq, Afghanistan and more recently in Gaza.

Providing support to street children

Providing support to street children

Our Night Ambulance and drop-in centres provide support to street girls and boys in the one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Our team provides livelihoods support so that these young people can lead a safer life away from the streets.

Empowering young generations

Empowering young generations
鈥淭o me safety means being able to grow, learn and play without fear.鈥 Our Child Rights Clubs help children to understand their rights. Through role play, group discussions and drawing, children can express concerns about their safety, violations of their rights and learn what to do when they feel vulnerable.聽
