As a part of our series on domestic abuse, refuges and support services for those experiencing domestic violence, Jenni visited staff and users of the Gaia Centre. Funded by Lambeth Council and run by , it is referred to as a gendered violence centre and seen as a potential model for future similar set ups. They receive 1800 calls a year and offer support, mostly to women and girls, for all forms of violence.

At the moment, just over a fifth of MPs are women – and all this week we’re looking at how that might change in 2015. We’ve been looking at the various efforts of the main political parties at Westminster to get more women to stand – and to help them get selected and elected.  Today, it’s the Conservatives. In 2005 Theresa May and Baroness Anne Jenkin founded Women2Win with the aim of getting more women into the House of Commons. And in 2010 the Conservatives nearly tripled its number of women MPs. So what are the experiences of the women who become prospective parliamentary candidates? Today we hear about the Party’s efforts to get more women into parliament and hear the stories of another two women who have been selected to fight for seats in May 2015 - Heidi Allen, PPC for South Cambridgeshire and Chamali Fernando, PPC for Cambridge.
