Tesco has said it will close 43 unprofitable stores across the UK - more than half of which will be local convenience shops, known as Tesco Express.
The firm has scrapped plans to build eight large supermarkets in Scotland. They were at Aviemore, Banff, Cowdenbeath, Crieff, East Kilbride, Fort William and Glasgow - and an extension to the Tesco in Cupar has also been cancelled. All eight are larger versions of the company's supermarkets, rather than the smaller Tesco Metros.
This comes after Sainsbury's announced its worst Christmas sales for a decade - with its new boss saying the rest of the year will "remain challenging.
