Beverley Cox's expatriate childhood in Kenya was overshadowed by her turbulent relationship with her father. The family's domestic help, Kak, stepped in to care for her, treating Beverly like his own daughter. Instead of looking after Kak in his retirement, as is often customary in Africa, Beverley's family left him with nothing.
