British pianist and composer Keith Tippett performs his piece The Nine Dances Of Patrick O'Gonogon in session with his octet, also featuring guest vocalist Julie Tippetts.

Over the past 40 years Keith Tippett has forged a path as one of the most important figures of the European scene. In the early 70s his big band Centipede did much to fuse the worlds of rock and jazz (as did his work with prog group King Crimson), whilst his time with exiled South African musicians Harry Miller and Louis Moholo permanently changed the sound of British free music. Today Tippett's presence as a composer and pianist continues to resonate. Here in a special session for Jazz on 3 he performs The Nine Dances Of Patrick O'Gonogon - his latest suite, inspired by his own Irish heritage.

Joining him in the studio are musicians from a younger generation, including Fulvio Sigurta on trumpet and flugel horn, Sam Mayne and James Gardiner-Bateman on reeds, Richard Foote and Rob Harvey on trombones and bassist Tom McCredie, whilst Tippett's longstanding comrade Peter Fairclough completes the line-up on drums and percussion.
