The Benefits of Exercise for Mental Health

Gillian Russell hears how a new cycling group in the Highlands is helping women with mental health issues, plus Dr Andrew Murray discusses the mental health benefits of exercise.

Gillian Russell talks to Ferga Perry from the Women's Cycle To Health Project about how a new cycling group is helping women with poor mental health.

Gillian goes for a cycle with one of the women to find out how the project helped her.

Dr Andrew Murray explains how exercise can be effective in dealing with a range of mental health issues.
And we sent Pennie Latin out to speak with Claire who suffers from a range of mental health problems. She found an interesting way to help motivate her. Just 15 minutes walking with her beloved dog Poppy each day has had a massive impact on her road to recovery.

If you have found exercise has helped you through difficult times in life like bereavement, divorce, work stress etc, tell us about it at personalbest@bbc.co.uk or text 80295 or tweet @bbcradioscot.
