Julian Joseph presents highlights of the much anticipated UK performance of saxophonist Kamasi Washington, recorded in front of a capacity crowd at the Barbican Theatre as part of the 2015 London Jazz Festival. Washington's debut album, a triple album , was one of the highlight releases of 2015 appearing in many end of year polls. Inspired by the spiritual jazz recordings of saxophonists John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders and Albert Ayler, he adds a contemporary twist to the music incorporating elements of funk, gospel and hip-hop. Kamasi has collaborated with a diverse range of musical giants including saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, rapper Snoop Dogg and vocalist Chaka Khan.
