If you鈥檙e born a girl in Rita鈥檚 village, in the Jharkhand state of eastern India, you鈥檙e likely to be married before the age of 16. You are denied a voice in decision-making and have little access to finance or land. More than a third are victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse, and many fear being ostracised or punished if they are seen talking to others.聽

Life is now changing in Rita鈥檚 village, thanks to All We Can鈥檚 local partner organisation, the Srijan Foundation. They helped women find a new source of income, trained them in leadership skills and increased their understanding of the laws in place to protect them from domestic violence.

Now Rita is working with other women in her village to change their community for the better. They set up a goat rearing co-operative which has given them more independence and built their confidence. Now they are putting their energy into urgent matters, like healthcare for under-fives, clean drinking water in schools, and protection for those suffering abuse.
