Film review day with a review of Midnight Special, plus hear from director Jeff Nichols

Director Jeff Nichols discusses his new film, Midnight Special, plus Alison Rowat and Nathaniel Smith review the film along with The Huntsman: Winter's War and Couple in a Hole.

It's movie review day on The Janice Forsyth Show: critically acclaimed Film maker, Jeff Nichols discusses his new film, 'Midnight Special' - the tale of a dedicated father (played by Michael Shannon) on the run from the government to protect his son, who seems to have mysterious powers!

Regular Critics, Alison Rowat and Nathaniel Smith will share their thoughts on it and on this week's other big cinema releases: including the dark fantasy adventure Huntsman: Winter War -a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman and Couple in A Hole - the story of a middle-aged couple who forgo the comforts of civilisation to live isolated inside a cave in the woods! We'll hear from the stars of the film Paul Higgins and Kate Dickie.

Later in the show, author Jenni Fagan discusses. not one but two, new books; her novel, The Sunlight Pilgrims, and a collection of poems, The Dead Queen of Bohemia and Dr David Archibald. Senior Lecturer in Film & Television Studies at the University of Glasgow will tell us all about the BFI's re-release of Peter Watkins' controversial 主播大秀 production, Culloden - hailed as a breakthrough when it was first broadcast in 1964, Culloden - which brilliantly reconstructs the famous battle of 1746 - stunned viewers by approaching its historical subject matter in the style of contemporary TV news coverage!

All that and the brilliant Mark Cousins will be on hand to talk about his new film, I Am Belfast.
