Episode 3

The Rip Off Britain team examine why travel companies so often refuse refunds for cancellations - even if there is still plenty of time to sell it to someone else.

Gloria Hunniford, Angela Rippon and Julia Somerville get to the bottom of why if you suddenly have to cancel a holiday the travel company so often refuses to refund a penny - even if there is still plenty of time to sell it to someone else. As a couple reveals how even the most devastating diagnosis didn't allow them to cancel without losing out, a man who took on the industry and won explains how he did it.

The team also examine why a family that spotted a mistake with their flights just minutes after booking still ended up with a whopping charge to change them, and travel expert Simon Calder has tips for exploring the Greek islands.

Rip Off Britain viewer John Cartwright's template letter to help get a refund on your canceled trip

If you鈥檝e had to cancel a holiday through illness, bereavement or other exceptional circumstances but weren't able to get a refund from the company you booked with then you could consider taking your claim to the Small Claims Court. Rip Off Britain viewer and former barrister John Cartwright did just that, after arguing the company needed to demonstrate it had made a loss by him cancelling - which would only happen if the company had been unable to resell the holiday to someone else.聽John ended up to getting most of his money back - and believes you may be able to do the same, especially聽if you've cancelled in good time.

Here's a downloadable template of two letters John suggests might help lead to a refund before getting as far as court.聽
