Families consider relocating down under. Will a week in Melbourne help Keith persuade his wife Mary to seek out a new life in Australia?

Captivated by family tales of adventure and romance in a land down under, Keith and Mary Hanson have talked of creating their own reality in Australia. With Keith now in his forties, he thinks they should make the move sooner rather than later - and believing it is the perfect place for him and Mary to start a family, he has already secured a visa.

But for Mary the timing is less than ideal. With her dad suffering from Parkinson's disease, she worries about how he would cope if she and Keith were on the other side of the world. Although she knows they would be going with his blessing, the thought of leaving him is tearing her in two.

When the couple spend a trial week in Melbourne, the country surpasses even Keith's expectations. But is everything they stand to gain enough to convince Mary that emigrating to the other side of the world really is the right move?

Hanson family update

We were in touch with Keith and Mary recently and they told us they are still living in the UK.

After returning from their trial week, Mary got some bad news - her dad was hospitalised for a few months due to a bad fall. 聽It threw plans into disarray for a while but now with him recovering well the move looks to be back on.

And already there鈥檚 good news.聽 They have both been granted a Permanent Residents Visa. 聽Now the idea is Keith will move to Australia first while Mary stays and cares for her Dad.

Eventually they both hope to move permanently, but in the meantime they are adapting to their new circumstances. We wish the family all the best and hope things work out.
