Episode 2

Countryfile spin-off series unveiling the secrets of spring. Margherita Taylor visits Devon's first commercial tea plantation to learn how tea could be grown in the UK.

In today's programme, Margherita is on the hunt for the perfect cream tea. She visits Devon's first commercial tea plantation to discover why the UK could have the ideal environment to grow tea and finds out how to cook up clotted cream to go with it. But when it comes to the age-old questions, jam or cream first, will it be Devon or Cornwall that comes out on top? Keeley is in Kent investigating what an earlier spring could mean for our countryside, and meeting a self-appointed weather detective to find out if we're in for a BBQ summer. Jules is in Jersey finding out how one of our favourite pastimes, golf, is helping to protect some of our most endangered species. And Paul discovers that our tradition of feeding bread to ducks could actually be doing them more harm than good.

Cream Tea Part One

Cream Tea Part One

The cream tea has long been a firm favourite amongst us Brits, regardless of whether jam or cream comes first. And of course the perfect accompaniment to the scone is a decent cup of tea. Margherita heads to the beautiful Tamar Valley to meet a lady who is bringing new meaning to a homemade cup of tea.

For fishermen, spring heralds the start of the shellfish season. Anita Rani meets the pioneers bringing new life to one of our most traditional of industries. Every day they go out, weather permitting, and come back in with their catch. But that’s where the similarities with other fishermen end. Tired of the unstable prices when selling to middlemen, ‘Dreckly Fish' sell their catch fresh and direct via Twitter. Anita spends the day in Newlyn, Cornwall, out on the water hauling in the lobster pots with them.

Cream Tea Part Two

Cream Tea Part Two

Margherita continues her journey through the West Country on the hunt for the perfect cream tea. She crosses over the border into Cornwall to meet two enterprising brothers running a successful dairy to get hold of the essential ingredient; clotted cream. Armed with the knowledge of how to make clotted cream at home, Margherita heads to Tavistock, arguably the home of the cream tea, to meet a food scientist who claims to have found the perfect formula for a cream tea.
