A cancer diagnosis is one of the most common life-changing events in Scottish life, with more cases than marriages or first births, the latest figures show. Macmillan Cancer Support said that cancer was also named as the disease people in Scotland most feared, ahead of conditions such as Alzheimer's.

A mum and swim coach in Wigan sparked debate this week after her video, showing her "Self-Rescue" for toddler's technique, went online. The video shows the submerging of a toddler in a pool, followed by the instructor stepping back and allowing the child to fend for itself, turning until their face is up and out of the water.
