Supermarket loyalty, Train station shopping, Obsolete smartphones

Tesco's Clubcard is relaunched; the train stations that have become shopping destinations in their own right; has your smartphone been designed to quickly become obsolete?

Are you loyal to your supermarket? In the 1990's the Clubcard was credited with helping Tesco to become the biggest UK retailer. Now, it's being relaunched. But the grocery world has changed a lot since Clubcard first appeared. Other supermarkets have their own loyalty schemes and with the rise of the discounters Aldi and Lidl, are loyalty cards still the game-changer they once were? We speak to Edwina Dunn, who pioneered Clubcard and went on to build a global business, before selling it to Tesco in 2011.

There was a time when you went to a train station simply to catch a train, but now travel is seen as a prime selling opportunity. It's got to the point where some stations and airports have become shopping destinations in their own right. Business is good for the retailers, but while there are plenty of shops, do stations and airports provide travellers with enough of the basics, like somewhere to sit down comfortably?

If you use an iPhone 5 or 5c smartphone, then from the autumn it could become more susceptible to bugs and security breaches. That's the warning from technical experts. These older models aren't compatible with Apple's latest system update, iOS 11. The regular updates aim to improve the performance of phones and make them more secure. But when new software can't be used on older phones, it leads to claims that manufacturers are designing phones with "built in obsolesence". Apple says that 86% of all their active devices are able to use the latest software and they're designed to be durable and hold their value really well. We ask how long you can reasonably expect a smartphone to last, and does it make sense to buy a refurbished older phone?
