2017 Final: Newtonmore v Kyles Athletic

Jonathan Sutherland presents live coverage of the 2017 MacAulay Cup final between Newtonmore and Kyles Athletic from Mossfield Park in Oban.

Jonathan Sutherland presents live coverage of one of the showpiece events in the Shinty season - the Macaulay Cup Final - from Mossfield Park in Oban.

This year's final sees the two top teams in the country - Newtonmore and Kyles Athletic - go head to head. Both sides have history in this competition, with Newtonmore claiming the title 11 times and Kyles Athletic going one better with 12 wins to their name.

Newtonmore, MacAulay Cup winners as recent as 2014 and 2015, reached the final with a hard-fought 3-0 victory over Lovat in the north semi-finals in Beauly. It took extra-time to separate the sides, with Jamie Robinson's double finally breaking Lovat hearts in the first period of extra-time before Michael Russell put the tie to bed with the third.

By contrast, Kyles Athletic were fast out of the traps, going 2-0 up against Oban Camanachd in the South semi-final after just 23 minutes, with Colin MacDonald at the double. Newtonmore go into the final having recorded comfortable back-to-back league and Camanachd Cup wins over their opponents from Tighnabruaic.
