Pam Ayres

Celebrities explore how the role of women in the armed forces has changed in the last 100 years. Pam Ayres recalls her years in the Women's Royal Air Force.

Writer and poet Pam Ayres recalls her years in the Women's Royal Air Force in the 1960s and returns to her job as a plotter to see if she still has what it takes to work in military intelligence. As she hears how things have changed for the women serving in the RAF today, she also meets one of the few surviving female pilots from WWII and gets a chance to fly on board a Puma helicopter - a job that was off limits to women at the time she joined up.
