Fifty years ago today, Christiaan Barnaard carried out the world's first human heart transplant operation. The Reverend Bryan Vernon, a senior lecturer in healthcare ethics, and cardiac surgeon Mr David Richens, who performed the first heart transplant here in Scotland discuss how we balance medical advances with the ethical challenges posed by our scientific risk-takers.

One of Britain's best known mountaineers and explorers, Sir Chris Bonington, joins Cathy to discuss his extraordinary life and remember the challenges he's faced both on and off the rock face.

We begin our Advent Inspirations with the Reverend Sally Foster Fulton, head of Christian Aid Scotland, who draws inspiration from Jackson Browne's song, "The Rebel Jesus".

And film critic, Paul Gallagher, reviews the film "Dolores", a stirring portrait of one of the most important, yet less well-known, social justice activists in American history, Dolores Huerta.
