Resolutions, with Don Coutts, Mary Paulson Ellis and Blair Bowman

Edi Stark and guests Don Coutts, Blair Bowman and Mary Paulson Ellis bring along recommendations linked by a theme of resolution.

It's a new year, a time for resolutions and showing resolve, which gives Edi Stark and her guests a theme for this week.

Filmmaker Don Coutts, founder of the Cromarty Film Festival, has chosen Les Intouchables, one of the most successful French films ever, about the unlikely friendship between a quadriplegic millionaire, and his young, black carer.

Mary Paulson Ellis is a writer whose debut novel The Other Mrs Walker was named the 2017 Waterstones Scottish Book of the Year. Her recommendation is the 1969 film adaptation of Muriel Spark's The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

And whisky consultant Blair Bowman's pick is Adrian J Walker's The End of the World Running Club.

Plus Edi visits the Edinburgh Makar, poet Alan Spence to hear why two years after retiring, he's taking on even more new ventures. And today's archive highlight is an interview with a man who showed great resolve, following his dream to get to the Olympics: Eddie "the Eagle" Edwards.
