The Music and Memories of Mark E. Smith

Lauren pays tribute to Mark E. Smith, a man whose music she connected with at the age of 16. We also take a trip to the future, as the People's Playlist salutes Ursula K. Le Guin.

Lauren pays tribute to Mark E. Smith, a man whose music she connected with, when she bought The Fall's Slates EP (at the age of 16).

She plays some of her favourite Fall songs, and those suggested by the listeners, as we remember the brilliance of a musician and lyricist whose misanthropic poetry rivals the work of Philip Larkin (something Lauren would never have been brave enough to say to Mark E. Smith in person).

We also take a trip to the future as the People's Playlist salutes writer Ursula K. Le Guin and - just one of the genres she became synonymous with - science fiction. The playlist includes Vangelis, Laurie Anderson, Goldfrapp and Deltron 3030.

There's also new Nils Frahm for the Just Added playlist and a Headphones Moment from Tom Misch, featuring Loyle Carner.
