Grenfell, One Year On

Aled Jones returns to Grenfell Tower to hear stories of faith and to find out how the charity Cornwall Hugs Grenfell is reaching out to those affected.

Aled Jones returns to Grenfell Tower 12 months after Britain's worst peacetime fire, in which 71 people lost their lives, to hear inspiring stories of faith and to find out how the community is coping. He catches up with the pastor still helping survivors and hears the moving story of one woman and her family, who lived on the 13th floor of the Tower. He meets Gaby Doherty who has written a book capturing stories of hope from within the community and finds out how one young man volunteers his time to create new green spaces for families to enjoy.

Josie d'Arby heads south to meet Esme Page who was so moved by the fire she set up Cornwall Hugs Grenfell to provide free holidays for those affected and there's music from around the country offering words of comfort and support.

Grenfell
A year on from the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire, where 71 people lost their lives, Aled Jones returns to this corner of London to hear how the community is coping. He catches up with the Pastor Derrick Wilson from the Tabernacle Christian Centre who are still helping survivors. We meet local resident Gaby Doherty who has written a book called ‘Grenfell Hope: Stories From The Community.’

Survivor’s Story
Fatima Alves and her husband owned their flat on the 13th floor of Grenfell Tower. They had lived there for 20 years with their two children. They escaped on the night of the fire.

The Olive Branch Charity
Tayshan Hayden-Smith lives in the community around Grenfell and since the fire volunteers his time to create green spaces for the community.

Cornwall Hugs Grenfell
Esmé Page set up the charity Cornwall Hugs Grenfell to offer free holidays to the people affected by the Grenfell Tower fire. We hear how people from all over Cornwall have offered support such as accommodation, therapy sessions, activities, and transport.
