Both Johanna Konta and Heather Watson bowed out at this stage last season, with the former unable to even take to the court for her match due to a back injury.

Meanwhile, Watson lost to Caroline Wozniacki - the Danish world number two who is heading back to the south coast for this year's tournament alongside the world's top-ranked player, Simona Halep.
