The day's first match is a heavyweight clash between France and Argentina at the Kazan Arena. The sides have only met twice before at the World Cup, in 1930 and 1978, with Argentina going on to reach the final on both occasions.
The game in Sochi between Uruguay and reigning European champions Portugal promises to be equally intriguing. The Uruguayans won all three of their group games but must find a way of containing Portugal's talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.
