Bertie Ahern - Former Prime Minister of Ireland

Sarah Montague speaks to former Irish prime minister Bertie Ahearn about Brexit, the Irish border and the Good Friday Agreement. Could changes to the border threaten peace?

In a matter of weeks, the United Kingdom will leave the European Union. The ongoing sticking point in negotiations is the Irish border which separates Northern Ireland, part of the UK and the Republic of Ireland which is a member of the EU.

20-years-ago the Good Friday Agreement brought peace to Northern Ireland largely by making the Irish border invisible. Bertie Ahern was Ireland's Prime Minister at the time of The Good Friday Agreement, he is one of its signatories.

Sarah Montague asks him - will any changes regarding how the Irish border is administered really threaten peace in Northern Ireland?
