The Daily Mail today has highlighted the story of two families who have different experiences of self-financed private treatment abroad. According to the BMJ there has been a noteable rise on crowdfunding websites related to health. More than 540 crowdfunding appeals in the UK have raised 拢8million since 2012 to send patients for cancer treatments alone.
GoFundMe reports that that number of medical-related campaigns it hosted grew by nearly 30% between 2017 and 2018. But there have been concerns raised about the evidence behind some of these treatments.
We've all seen the heart rending appeals online to fund medical treatment for individuals when all else has failed.
