A look at the cultural and religious legacy of the 1979 Iranian Revolution, hypnotist Paul McKenna on NLP, and the life of war correspondent Marie Colvin killed in Syria.

Cathy talks to Jim McColl, one of the most successful business people in Scotland. Chairman and Chief Executive of engineering giant Clyde Blowers, his economic know-how has also been recognised by the government; he’s on the First Minister’s council of economic advisers. Not bad for a man who left school at 16 with a handful of qualifications.

Thursday 14 February 2019 marks 40 years since the Iranian Revolution toppled the dynasty of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, making way for Ayatollah Khomeini to come to power and the creation of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Cathy discusses the cultural and religious legacy of that momentous period with Ali Ansari, Professor of Iranian History at the University of St Andrews, and British/Iranian artist Roxana Vilk.

War correspondent Marie Colvin was killed while reporting from the besieged Syrian enclave of Baba Amr in February 2012. A Washington judge has ruled that it was murder, saying that she was specifically targeted – to silence those reporting on the growing opposition movement in the country. Her final assignment, with her photographer Paul Conroy, is the subject of a Ö÷²¥´óÐã 4 documentary. Cathy speaks to Paul about that fateful last mission.

Paul McKenna became a household name in the 90s as a television hypnotist, before moving into the self-help industry. Cathy speaks to him about his show ‘The Three Things That Will Change Your Destiny’ … showing how small changes in people's lives can often make a huge difference.

Confidence is one of the topics being explored in Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio Scotland’s latest series of Life Cycle, where presenter, former British Mountain Bike Champion, Lee Craigie gets on her bike to explore life issues. Lee joins Cathy and Fiona Buchanan, Campaigns and Advocacy Co-ordinator with Christian Aid Scotland who’s also involved in the Girlguiding movement to discuss, among other things, whether confidence is something you’re born with.
