Born to be Wild, Doors Open Days and Largs Vikings

Nicola Meighan gets a sneak preview of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Two series Born to be Wild, we celebrate the 30th year of Doors Open Days, and the Largs Viking Festival gets underway this weekend.

Natural history series Born to be Wild launches on Ö÷²¥´óÐã TWO on Monday 2nd September. We chat to some of the team behind the programme ahead of the first episode.

Nicola goes exploring around The Dunmore Pineapple, a folly ranked as “the most bizarre building in Scotland".

The annual Edinburgh Big Beach Busk celebrates its 10th anniversary on Saturday 31st August. We chat to the family behind the event to find out more about the musical bonanza they have planned for this weekend.

Also celebrating an important anniversary is the Scottish Civic Trust’s Doors Open Days. This year is the 30th celebration of Scotland’s largest free festival, which celebrates our heritage and the built environment. It offers free access to over a thousand venues across the country throughout September. National Co-ordinator, Nicola Godsal, joins us from our Glasgow studio.

Aberdeen’s leading multicultural celebration, Aberdeen Mela – One World Day, returns on Sunday for its third year. Project Manager Dr Narayan Shrestha joins Nicola in the Aberdeen studio to give us a taste of the event this year.

The village of Carrbridge is gearing up for its annual speed chainsaw carving festival, Carve Carrbridge, on Saturday 31st August. We hear all about their plans for the event.

A brand new surf centre is due to open on Belhaven Beach this September, so we sent reporter Frankie Vaughan to find out more about the Scottish surf scene.

And the Largs Viking Festival gets underway this weekend, celebrating its 40th year. Alex Gallagher, Local Counsellor and Chair of the Festival Board, phones in to tell us all about their nine-day celebration.
