Tempting drinks, Power of attorney, Xmas TV ads

Why drinks packaging mustn't be too alluring for underage drinkers, a sharp rise in court cases involving power of attorney, and why expensive Xmas TV ads might become outdated.

We look at a new code of conduct published by the Portman Group - the body that promotes responsible drinking, funded by the industry. It says drinks-manufacturers must ensure packaging and promotional materials don't cause harm or offence. They are also being told they have an obligation to protect vulnerable people - which could include children. Are the new rules likely to make a difference?

Lawyers say there's been a 55% rise in the number of court cases in which people with Power of Attorney are exploiting the very people they're supposed to be protecting. The financial 'abuses' can include gifts being purchased with the vulnerable person's money.

With more people tuning away from traditional linear TV viewing to streaming and catch-up, will the traditional multi-million pound Xmas TV advertisements continue to cut through to the consumer? New research suggests we're now less susceptible to adverts - is that really true?

And as a third of all new house sales end up falling through in England and Wales, the Government's been looking at improving the system...and one idea is to ask both sides to put down some money as part of a 'Reservation Agreement'. Would that be enough to stamp out gazumping?
