Margate, Turner and the Prize

How an influx of newcomers - and the arrival of Turner Contemporary - has affected Margate. Featuring Tracey Emin, the Turner Prize shortlist artists and some Margate residents.

In 2019, the Turner Prize comes from Margate. Since the painter JMW Turner came to Margate and marvelled at 'the loveliest skies in all Europe', newcomers have arrived, drawn to the seaside and also the sense that they might be able to find a new beginning here.

This documentary explores the impact of these influxes of incomers - and the arrival of the Turner Contemporary art gallery - on the town. The programme hears from Margate-born Tracey Emin, the Turner Prize shortlist artists and some of Margate鈥檚 residents.
