Bruce MacGregor celebrates the life and work of folklorist, poet, songwriter and political activist Hamish Henderson who was born in Perthshire one hundred years ago. Hamish has been described as the 'father of the Scottish folk revival' collecting songs and ballads from around the country in the 1950's and 60's and sharing this ancient oral culture with a wider audience. We hear about some of the key members of the travelling community Hamish connected with through song. And how he helped American collector, Alan Lomax, to tap into this rich culture. We also analyse some of his own songs, including the iconic Freedom Come All Ye.
