Episode 6

Ploughing Association president Anna May McHugh and president Michael D Higgins kick off the biggest outdoor festival in Europe, the National Ploughing Championships.

Beidh gach duine ag tógáil sosa ón fheirmeoireacht an tseachtain seo agus ag triail ar Cheatharlach don Chomórtas Náisiúnta Treabhadóireachta. Cuirfidh an tUachtarán Michael D Higgins agus Uachtarán na Féile Anna May McHugh tús leis an fhéile is mó amuigh faoin aer san Eoraip. Beidh na deartháireacha Simms as Dún na nGall i gcomórtas le plúr na dtreabhadóirí – agus lena chéile. Caithfidh Micheál Roche agus a mhac John súil ar phór eile seachas a gcuid Limousins féin. Beidh uaisleacht na bhfeirmeoireachta ann ó Bhanríon na Talún go banríon ‘Chaitheamh na mBuataisí’ Máire George. Lúthchleasaí ab ea Jamie Costin ach is feirmeoir é anois agus suim aige i ngach a bheidh ar taispeáint anseo- agus gach duine ag baint sult as an aimsir bhreá.

This week, all roads lead to Carlow to the National Ploughing Championships, as Ploughing Association president Anna May McHugh and president Michael D Higgins kick off the biggest outdoor festival in Europe. There is some tough competition in the ploughing itself where the Simms brothers from Donegal try to out-plough not just the Wexford and Carlow world champions but each other. Micheál Roche and son John check out the cattle. Is there any breed that can outshine Limousins for them? With Máire George, there is singing, dancing and wellie-throwing! It is a busman’s holiday for dairy farmer Jamie Costin who takes a day off to look at what is new in farming technology. Josephine O’Neill shows some nifty tractor moves. There is no end to the fun in the sun!
