With Cathy Macdonald

Briana Pegado of Creative Edinburgh and writer Manda Scott join Cathy to discuss the value of being creative in a crisis and how to re-imagine the world after lockdown.

For some, lockdown has sparked their creative side; for others these anxious times have dampened their creativity. But how can we use our creative spark to re-imagine the world after the pandemic has passed? Briana Pegado, the Director of Creative Edinburgh and the novelist and broadcaster Manda Scott join Cathy Macdonald to discuss the value of being creative in a crisis.

Writer and broadcaster Richard Holloway talks about the reasons why he felt compelled to write a letter to a baby born amidst the coronavirus outbreak and the parallels he sees in how we responded to the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s.

As plans emerge regarding lifting the lockdown, there’s been a growing debate about the rights of the over seventies and whether there should there be separate rules for the young and the old. Brian Sloan of Age Scotland joins Cathy to look at the ethics surrounding different responses to lifting lockdown based on age.

Richard Holloway and Manda Scott review a TV documentary called ‘Retreat: Meditations From A Monastery’ which reflects the peace and tranquillity of life in a Benedictine monastery near Elgin, in Moray.

And we hear the extraordinary story of the female motorcyclist from Pakistan, Guliafshan Tariq, who is seeing out lockdown in Pitlochry.
