Episode 9

A breeding pair of rare amur tigers arrive at the park, a naughty little oryx gives the keepers the runaround, and the giraffe move into their summer pastures.

Kate Humble and Ben Fogle return for another day at Britain鈥檚 wildest safari park.

Today holds one of the most exciting arrivals ever at Longleat as two of the largest wild cats on the planet pounce onto the park. The pair of endangered amur tigers are part of a vital global breeding programme, so it is essential they produce cubs to help ensure the survival of their species. But this is the mother of all blind dates. The hopeful love match have never met, so the big question is will it be love or war when two of earth鈥檚 most ferocious predators mix for the very first time?

And it is also a big day for the giraffes! After spending the winter months in the giraffe house and paddock, they are about to be let out into the reserve for the first time as the weather hots up. But they are notoriously nervy so anything can happen as they edge towards their Wiltshire savannah. And don鈥檛 think for a minute these gentle giants are as docile as they seem. On days like today, their prey mentality is coursing through their veins and the smallest obstacle can seem like a threat. Keeper beware: these guys have a kick powerful enough to take out a lion.

The keepers are delighted that they have made a contribution to reversing the dwindling population of an endangered species, the scimitar-horned oryx. But the latest addition to the family is really giving them the runaround. Two-week-old Roo causes mayhem on her first day out of the oryx house! The cheeky tot makes a break for it and enjoys a blissful frolic out in the reserve. The staff will have a busy summer ahead keeping tabs on this little madam!
