With Tony Kearney

Two hours of music and conversation with a faith and ethical perspective, including the coronavirus in countries with conflict; and a powerful new film about the US penal system.

How is the global pandemic impacting on countries struggling with ongoing conflict, in particular Syria and Yemen? Already two of the most vulnerable countries in the world before COVID-19, Tony talks to foreign affairs writer and photographer David Pratt about the impact, and is joined by British-Yemeni-American Yasmin Luqman, and Mazen Gharibah from the London School of Economics. They also consider the repercussions for international aid after the recent announcement that DIFID 鈥 the Department for International Development - will merge with the Foreign Office.

Believing in God and being gay is at times challenging and a new book 鈥楾he Book of Queer Prophets鈥 explores this. Editor Ruth Hunt joins Tony to talk about the contributions from among others, writer Jeanette Winterson and American screenwriter and director Dustin Lance Black.

Richie Roncero will be telling Tony about founding the charity Steps to Hope, born from his own experiences with addiction and crime, and a desire to help people out of the destructive cycle he found himself in. From running two soup kitchens a week, he now provides hot meals every day.

Reporter Bob Dickson on an initiative called the Veteran鈥檚 Mentoring Service which provides support and guidance to former military personnel who are at risk of finding themselves on the wrong side of the criminal justice system.

And marking the online Edinburgh Film Festival with a review of the documentary 鈥淎nthropocene: The Human Epoch鈥, offering a sobering look at the ecological damage by modern human civilisation and Fergus McNeill, Professor of Criminology & Social Work, University of Glasgow gives his thoughts on a powerful new film from America called Clemency, and what it tells us about justice and the death penalty.
